How long does it take to show up on Google?

    By Rafi - 3 min read - 1 October 2026

    Short answer

For your own business name, you often show up within a few days to a couple of weeks. In local searches such as "hairdresser Uppsala" it tends to take a few weeks to a few months, depending on the competition. Nobody can promise a particular position or a particular date, but a complete Google profile and fresh reviews are what speed things up most.

The most common misunderstanding about websites is that customers start calling the day after launch. Google first needs to find the site, understand it and start to trust it. Here is what you can expect, step by step.

First, Google has to find the site

A new site has to be discovered and indexed before it can be shown at all. It goes faster if you submit it in Google Search Console and send in a sitemap. Expect a few days to a couple of weeks.

    Searches for your business name

This is the fastest part, because few others are competing for your particular name. Once the site is indexed and your Google Business Profile is verified, you tend to show up for your own name before long.

    Local searches

Searches such as "dentist Västerås" are decided largely by the Google Business Profile. A complete profile can have an effect within a few weeks. Getting past established competitors usually takes a few months and needs reviews coming in at a steady pace.

    Highly competitive keywords

For broad searches without a town, or in industries where many businesses invest in SEO, it can take six months or more. For most local businesses, that isn't where the customers are. Focus on your town first.

    What speeds things up?

Four things make the biggest difference for a local business:

    • A verified and complete Google Business Profile
    • Reviews that come in regularly
    • A website that clearly states your service and town
    • The same business details everywhere online

And if you are in a hurry?

If you want customers as early as tomorrow, ads on Google are the only thing that works straight away. They stop giving results when you stop paying, so treat them as a complement while your long-term visibility is being built up.
